The origins of vodka are traced to Poland and Russia. The Russian word 'Voda' meaning water is where the word vodka originated. Vodka was first produced around the beginning of the twelfth century, initially for medical purposes.
From the seventeenth century it had become customary for vodka to be served at Russian Imperial banquets.
What does it taste like? Vodka can be made from anything that contains starch, such as rye, wheat, potatoes, and maize. It is distilled at very high proofs, and is then filtered through vegetable charcoal. The outcome of the distilling process for all vodkas is a clear, colourless, odourless smooth spirit. The more premium the vodka, the smoother the taste.
